History
BOLS Blackberry Flavored Brandy was crafted by the Bols family who started the production of liqueurs in a small Amsterdam distillery called 't Lootsje. Lucas Bols, the grandson of the founder, was born in 1669. In 1700, he became a major shareholder in the Dutch East India trading company, gaining access to exotic herbs and spices that inspired over 300 liqueur and spirit recipes. Lucas Bols began shipping Bols liqueurs worldwide, and after his death in 1719, the family continued to innovate. They created a revolutionary genever recipe, contributing to the cocktail revolution of the 19th century. The first cocktail recipe book, published in 1862, featured genever in one in four recipes. By 1883, Bols was aging genevers in French Limousin oak casks, leading to the relaunch of the Bols Genever Barrel Aged recipe in 2010, showcasing the brand's rich heritage and commitment to quality.
