Taste
Pappy Van Winkle 10 Year Bourbon is an elite bourbon, worthy of any bourbon connoisseur. This luxurious line of bourbon is named after Julian P. Van Winkle, Sr. He was best known as "Pappy", and produced at the Buffalo Trace Distillery. This marvelous blend is crafted from Mash Bill #2, like other great blends such as Blanton's, William Larue, and Elmer T. Lee's. It is produced with a mash bill of corn, malted barley, and extra rye, resulting in a rich and complex flavor profile. This bourbon is rich with profound notes of vanilla and toasted wood aromas. On the palate, you'll notice a buttery mouthfeel, mingled with rich hints of caramel, and undertones of roasted nuts. The finish is spicy with a lingering buttery mouthfeel throughout, making it a truly unforgettable experience.
History
Pappy Van Winkle 10 Year Bourbon is known as a unicorn in the Bourbon community. It is an iconic bourbon created to commemorate the legacy of Julian P. Van Winkle, Sr. best known as "Pappy" by those who knew him and loved him. Pappy began working at W.L. Weller & Sons in 1893 as a traveling whiskey salesman and eventually became the President of Stitzel-Weller Distillery. During this time he sold Old Fitzgerald and earned an outstanding reputation for his commitment to a fine bourbon. His vow is still honored today. Pappy's son, Julian Jr., ended up selling the business in 1972, which was one of his biggest regrets, leading him to establish "J.P. Van Winkle and Son" to keep the bourbon legacy alive. Julian III took over in 1981 and faced the challenge of a declining premium bourbon market. Undeterred, he purchased the Old Hoffman Distillery for production. The quality of Old Rip Van Winkle soon gained recognition, culminating in a remarkable 99/100 score in 1997, which sparked interest from distributors. Buffalo Trace eventually acquired the W.L. Weller label in 1999, adopting Pappy's recipe and ensuring the continued production of this legendary bourbon.
