History
BOLS Mango Liqueur was crafted by the Bols family who started the production of liqueurs in a small Amsterdam distillery called 't Lootsje. Lucas Bols, the grandson of the founder, was born in 1669. In 1700, he became a major shareholder in the Dutch East India trading company, which granted him first choice of newly arrived exotic herbs and spices, aiding him in creating over 300 liqueur and spirit recipes. He began shipping Bols liqueurs globally, establishing a brand renowned for quality and innovation. Lucas Bols died in 1719, leaving a legacy that continues to thrive today. The Bols family also ventured into the distillation of the famous Dutch genever, made from long-fermented rye, wheat, and corn. Bols developed a revolutionary genever recipe, which became a favorite in the United States and played a crucial role in the cocktail revolution. Notably, in the world's first cocktail recipe book, published in 1862 by bartender Jerry Thomas, one in four cocktails featured genever. In 1883, Bols began maturing genevers in French Limousin oak casks, leading to the creation of the Bols Genever Barrel Aged recipe, which was relaunched internationally in 2010.
