Taste
Uncle Nearest 1856 is bold and spicy, presenting dominant notes of sweet caramel and maple on the nose. The palate is filled with lingering hints of vanilla as the initial spice dissipates, revealing a complex flavor profile. Its caramel color boasts a beautiful deep golden hue. Aromas of baled hay and pumpkin seeds mingle with subtle notes of ripe stone fruit and caramel corn. Bold and spicy upfront, it mellows gracefully into sweet caramel and maple, reminiscent of biting into a warm oatmeal raisin cookie. The finish is long, rich, and satisfying, leaving a delightful warmth that invites another sip.

History
The story of Uncle Nearest 1856 begins with Nathan "Nearest" Green, the first known African American master distiller in the United States. In the mid-1800s, he taught Jack Daniel the art of whiskey making, setting the foundation for what would become one of the most iconic brands in the world. Green's legacy was long overshadowed, but in 2017, the brand was launched to honor his craftsmanship and contributions to the whiskey industry. Uncle Nearest 1856 is a blend of premium aged whiskey, handcrafted with a unique charcoal filtering process known as the Lincoln County Process, ensuring a smooth, rich flavor. Today, the brand not only celebrates its rich heritage but also emphasizes social responsibility and entrepreneurship in the African American community.

Uncle Nearest 1856 is a unique spirt made using local ingredients from Tennessee. Our whiskey is made the way Nearest made it intricately by hand, placing it in the barrel close to 110-proof, and pouring it out at just the right age. Uncle Nearest was created by fifth-generation master blender Victoria Eady Butler to honor her great-great-grandfather, Nearest Green.
